Site reader

ClocotLeadEngine

What Clocot's site reader visits, how it behaves, and how to keep it away from your site.

What it is

ClocotLeadEngine is the automated reader of Clocot, operated by LexLupi LLC. It visits the public website of a business listed in open business directories (such as Overture Maps) and reads the contact details that business publishes about itself: its contact, about and team pages.

How it behaves

  • It names itself in every request: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; ClocotLeadEngine/1.0; +https://www.clocot.com/bot).
  • It reads /robots.txt first and asks for nothing a site disallows. A robots.txt that does not answer counts as a refusal.
  • It reads at most four pages of a site in one visit, one page at a time, with short timeouts.
  • It never submits forms, signs in, passes a paywall or tries to get around a block.
  • It keeps only what a business published about itself (name, contact addresses, people named on the site, description, logo address), with the page it came from.
  • An address on a site that says it does not accept unsolicited messages is never used for a cold e-mail.

Keeping it away from your site

Add these two lines to your robots.txt. The reader checks it before every visit:

User-agent: ClocotLeadEngine
Disallow: /

To have your business removed and never collected again, write to office@clocot.com with your domain. We delete what we hold and keep only a one-way fingerprint of the domain, so it is skipped from then on.
